Founding The Investment Mindset

As a leader of teams I have had the privilege to support the careers of so many individuals and inspire them to get the best out of themselves. Often I noticed team members prioritized “getting stuff done” and helping others over investing in themselves. I would do the same in my own career until a good friend suggested I manage my life as an “investment portfolio” to make sure I prioritized things that mattered to me and would help me grow.

The impact of this conversation was enormous. I started becoming more purposeful about how I spent my time: I joined a Room to Read women’s circle, made new friendships and spent more time recharging outside of work. As a result, I felt more energized and happier. My boss complimented me for delivering better results and my team commented that I became a more effective leader. It became clear that investing in oneself is not selfish, but a strategy that benefitted my business, my colleagues, my partner, my kids and myself.

We can be so busy and consumed by deliverables that we lose touch of who we are. We lose sight of our strengths and weaknesses and forget to monitor our energy levels that keep ourselves replenished. Imbalances that persist for long periods of time impact our happiness and ability to function well. A recent survey from Slack found that burnout is on the rise globally, most significantly in the U.S., where 43% of managers reported burnouts.

The Investment Mindset has made me realize how we are happiest when our needs are fulfilled and our values are honored. I believe that when we are purposeful and grateful in life everything becomes better. I founded The Investment Mindset to pay it forward and help others unlock the extraordinary benefits of investing in themselves.
